Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of DC/DC, AC/DC switch mode power supplies utilizing various topologies.
  • Take products from concept to volume production while ensuring that it meets performance specifications, schedule, cost & reliability targets.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional team (PCB layout, Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Test and Quality engineering) to ensure that design meets all DfX requirements.
  • Select raw materials, components and suppliers based on product performance specifications, reliability and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead research and development activities of new technologies.
  • Perform cost analysis and produce cost estimates for new design concepts.
  • Attend customer calls to collect project requirements and provide design status updates.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in peer reviews, provide feedback and guidance as needed.
  • Perform circuit simulations, DFMEA, component stress analysis, reliability prediction calculations, Design Verification Testing and write technical reports.
  • Prepare documentation for product release.
  • Support RMA group with root causes analysis.
  • Participate in the recruitment process.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities when required.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 12-15 years of related experience. Or Master’s with 10-13 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in mixed signal circuit design, simulations, and test of power electronics.
  • Experience working with magnetics and practical design of custom transformers and inductors.
  • Experience designing EMC filters to meet regulatory compliance.
  • In depth knowledge of power conversion principles, topologies, and technologies. HV and RF experience and/or knowledge is desirable.
  • In depth understanding of control theory.
  • Hands on design validation experience including impedance and loop phase/gain measurements, precision noise measurement, and load transient response.
  • Must understand business strategies and have a high level of understanding for the business flow.
  • Strong project management experience and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to make economic judgments with respect to product cost and manufacturing process.
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
